Something went wrong: the European Parliament postponed the presentation of the prize to Sentsov indefinitely
The European Parliament has postponed indefinitely the ceremony of presenting the Sakharov Prize to Ukrainian Oleg Sentsov, who was released on exchange, who was serving a sentence in the Russian Federation on charges of terrorism, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Rikard Jozwiak, a journalist with the Brussels branch of Radio Liberty, reported this on Twitter.
“The ceremony to present the Sakharov Prize to Sentsov, which was supposed to take place on October 22, has been postponed. The European Parliament is checking whether they can hold it in November,” the journalist wrote.
As PolitNavigator already reported, on October 25, 2018, during the plenary session of the European Parliament (EP) in Strasbourg, President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani announced Oleg Sentsov as the winner of the annual Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.
PolitNavigator also reported that after Sentsov’s release, Chairman of the European Parliament David Sassoli said that he was personally looking forward to meeting with the Ukrainian in the European Parliament. And French President Macron received Sentsov in Strasbourg.
