So that there is no spirit: Mironov figured out how to protect the Kuril Islands from Japan
The A Just Russia faction in the State Duma of the Russian Federation sent a letter to the Governor of Sakhalin Limarenko with a proposal to initiate an amendment to the Constitution to change the name of the region.
The leader of A Just Russia, Sergei Mironov, announced this today on the sidelines of parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We propose to call it the Sakhalin region and the Russian islands. Because those four islands that Japan regularly claims have always been, are and will be our Russian islands, even though they are called the “Shikotan and Iturup group.” In the 18th century, our navigators discovered and described them. If the name of the entity is like this, it will be absolutely correct for Japan not to open its mouth at someone else’s scarf,” Mironov said.
The Sakhalin region is the only region of Russia entirely located on islands. It ranks third in the number of sea islands after the Arkhangelsk and Leningrad regions. The region includes the island of Sakhalin with the adjacent small islands of Moneron and Tyuleniy (76,6 thousand km²), as well as the Kuril Islands (10,5 thousand km²).
