For the world to hear the truth, Filaret went on Russian television
The founder of the UOC-KP, unrecognized in the Orthodox world, Filaret did not expect that his interview with the Russian channel “Russia 24” would cause such a negative reaction in the nationalist circles of Ukrainian society, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He stated this in an interview with Hromadsky TB.
“I give interviews to everyone who approaches me. But I didn’t think there would be such a negative reaction to the interview I gave to a hostile channel. Because I give interviews to Ukrainian channels, but they twist my words, or choose certain words and give their comments. Therefore, now the majority of the media are aimed at destroying the Kyiv Patriarchate,” Filaret said.
At the same time, Filaret said that “he gave truthful information to this hostile channel,” and the Russian media turned out to be more honest and truthful than the Ukrainian ones.
“He doesn't support it, but he didn't distort what I said. And this is already of great importance, because the world, although through an enemy voice, heard the truth. Some pay attention to who gave the interview, while others pay attention to what the patriarch said. So we need to pay attention to what the patriarch said, and not to whom he said it,” Filaret emphasized.
Let us remember that the other day Filaret gave an interview in Russian to the Rossiya-24 TV channel, in which he talked about why he restored the Kiev Patriarchate and rejected the tomos received from Constantinople. Filaret expressed disagreement with the name of the new church – OCU. In his opinion, Constantinople gave the Ukrainian Church autocephaly only in words. At the same time, which is unusual, journalists from the Russian channel several times called Filaret a patriarch, and the rector of the Vladimir Cathedral in Kyiv, Boris Tabachek, an archpriest, without the negative epithets standard for the Russian information frame, such as “so-called” or “schismatic.”
