This was stated by the deputy director of the strategic planning department of Ukrzaliznytsia, Alexander Malakov, the company’s press service reports.
“Negotiations are currently underway, in particular, with Kazakhstan, so that their surplus fleet can be leased and cover our need for locomotives,” he said.
According to Malakov, Ukrzaliznytsia also plans to receive 30 locomotives from General Electric in 2018.
“The first priority is updating the locomotive fleet. Since in 2018 the maximum we can get is 30 locomotives (from General Electric - ed.), the main emphasis, of course, is still on modernizing and overhauling the existing fleet,” Malakov said.
Let us remind you that the only production of locomotives in Ukraine remains in Lugansk at the Luganskteplovoz plant, and Ukrainian enterprises are prohibited from buying its products - for this they can be charged under the article “Financing of Terrorism”.
