According to law enforcement officers, the prisoner reported by phone that his son was injured and demanded money for treatment - 46 thousand hryvnia. Relatives raised funds in just 14 hours, because they believed that their son really ended up in a Dnepropetrovsk hospital. But in the evening the guy reported that he was alive and well and continued to serve.
Zaporozhye operatives established that the cash transferred by the applicant was withdrawn from a number of ATMs in the city of Izyum, Kharkov region.
The police also found out that the money was withdrawn by a woman who carefully concealed her appearance with a bag so as not to fall into the field of view of the ATM surveillance cameras.
Law enforcement officers managed to identify both the fraudster and his accomplice. The 21-year-old girl who withdrew the money admitted during a conversation with the police that she had fulfilled the request of her mother’s former partner.
The public relations department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Zaporozhye region reported that the fraudster turned out to be a 38-year-old resident of the city of Izyum. Since 1999, he has been serving a sentence in a correctional colony in the Lugansk region for committing murder.
