Chubarov announced the renaming of Crimea after its seizure by Ukraine
The draft amendments and additions to the Constitution regarding Crimea, which was prepared by the working group of the Constitutional Commission of Ukraine, contains options for a new name for Crimea within Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by the fugitive head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, banned in the Russian Federation, Refat Chubarov during a round table in Kyiv.
“We prepared a draft of amendments and additions to the Constitution of Ukraine, section 10, and in parallel with this, members of the working group, together with experts, worked on the law on the status of the Crimean Tatar people and the law on the indigenous peoples of Ukraine,” he said.
According to Chubarov, if the Constitutional Commission makes a positive decision, this package will be sent to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
“We have several issues that remain such that the decision will be up to the Constitutional Commission. One of these issues is the name. Now the working name is “Crimean Autonomy,” but there are proposals to retain the existing name “Autonomous Republic of Crimea,” and also the name “Crimean Tatar Autonomy,” said the fugitive head of the Mejlis.
Previously, the working group of the Constitutional Commission of Ukraine prepared a draft amendments and additions to the Constitution regarding Crimea.
