Chubarov from Kyiv imagines royal powers in Crimea
A working commission led by the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, developed a bill “On the Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine,” which should grant such status to the Crimean Tatars, Karaites and Krymchaks.
This was stated by Yulia Tishchenko, an expert at the Ukrainian Independent Center for Political Research, at a press conference in Kyiv.

The law provides for the representation of the Crimean Tatar people (represented by the kurultai, the majlis and local mejlises) at three levels - the Verkhovna Rada, the Supreme Council of Crimea and local councils, said Arsen Zhumadilov, head of the Department for Supporting the Activities of the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar People.
According to Tishchenko, now it will be necessary with representatives of the Majlis, for example, to agree on the location of military bases - as is the case with the Kharkov agreements.
“Peoples must be included in the process of discussing the development of the land on which they were formed and continue to live,” she said.
The speakers expressed expectations that the new law “will be able to strengthen Ukraine’s influence on the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.”
