“Dear Mr. President!

In your person we address all the people of the United States of America

A big disaster has come to the historical homeland of the Crimean Tatars - Crimea, which threatens to develop into a global humanitarian and social catastrophe for its almost two million population - Russians, Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars.

For more than a week now, a massive movement of armed soldiers and military equipment of the Russian army has been taking place on the streets of cities and roads of Crimea, relying on which a group of irresponsible Crimean separatist politicians carried out a coup.

Every day more and more military units are being transferred from Russia to Crimea. The number of Russian troops in Crimea has reached more than 30 thousand people. They have blocked all garrisons of the Ukrainian army, occupied airports, and blocked entry and exit from Crimea.

Of particular concern to the multinational population of Crimea are large groups of “Cossacks” - members of paramilitary organizations who come en masse to Crimea from the Krasnodar Territory and other regions of the Russian Federation to destabilize the situation, the distribution of military weapons to members of the so-called “self-defense units” led by putschists, while a time when the entire civilian population remains unarmed.

Military observers from OSCE member states have not been allowed into Crimea for the third day. Every day they are stopped at the entrance to Crimea by armed people.

Under the threat of violence, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Robert Serry, was expelled from Crimea by armed men.

Dear Mr. President!

Today, the entire civilized world is in anticipation of shocks that may occur as a result of a further escalation of the situation in Crimea.

The multinational population of Crimea - Ukrainians, Russians, Crimean Tatars - is on the eve of the darkest forebodings and a sense of fear for the lives of their children, relatives and friends. The irreparable can happen at any moment.

In the 70th century, Crimea already experienced a humanitarian catastrophe, the consequences of which have not been eliminated to this day. 18 years ago, on May 1944, XNUMX, the communist regime of the USSR subjected the Crimean Tatar people, the indigenous people of the peninsula, to total deportation.

In one day, everything was taken away from us - our Motherland, houses, property. In the first years of exile, in remote areas of Central Asia, the Urals and Siberia, 46% of our people died from repression, hunger, disease and deprivation.

Only 45 years later we were able to open the way home - to our homeland, to Crimea. The return of the Crimean Tatar people coincided with the collapse of the USSR and the formation of independent Ukraine, within which we live. Crimean Tatars are having a hard time settling down again in their homeland, in peace and harmony with their neighbors - Russians, Ukrainians, residents of Crimea of other nationalities.

Mr. President!

In connection with recent events and possible even more serious consequences associated with the introduction of a huge number of armed forces of the Russian Federation into Crimea, the Crimean Tatars, as well as their Russian neighbors, Ukrainians turn their hopes to the international community and the leading states of the world, and especially to government of the United States of America.
Expressing my respect to you and the US Government, allow me to publicly broadcast the question of hundreds of thousands of residents of Crimea - Crimean Tatars, Russians, Ukrainians living in Crimea and addressed to you and the Heads of other states:

– who and when will stop the escalation of the situation in Crimea and prevent a threat to the lives of the population of Crimea?

– who and when will prevent the threat of new ethnic cleansing, what could happen in Crimea in the event of direct clashes provoked by the military and their accomplices from paramilitary organizations?

Mr. President!

I am sure that the world can find answers to these and many other questions only together with the Governments of the USA, Ukraine, and Russia.

Be decisive in the name of peace and justice, preserving the lives of hundreds of thousands of people living in Crimea,” Chubarov urges.
