Fugitive associates of Mejlis member Ilmi Umerov, convicted today in Crimea, held an emergency press conference in Kiev, at which they announced that they would deliberately make noise about the case in order to mitigate the sentence when considered in the appellate court.
In particular, this was stated by Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar.

“Together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we are planning quite active actions regarding, precisely, making noise in the international arena, which, from the point of view of lawyers, is almost the only possible tool... It seems to me that this could affect the appeal and the outcome of the appeal ", said Jeppar.
And the head of the Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, Refat Chubarov, demanded that the US Special Representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volcker, stop negotiations with Russia.
“I think that he simply has to - he is the special representative of the US State Department for Ukraine. I think he should express his point of view. Not just condemn, but must say what he will do in order for us to save Ilmi Umerov... Or brush off the Crimean Tatars, Crimea, Ukraine as yet another concern and meet with these murderers in the Kremlin. Or say that everything is enough,” Chubarov said.
