Chubarov threw a wild tantrum and hinted at Kravchuk’s senile insanity
The current government must restore order among its elderly advisers, such as the first president of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, whose proposal to submit the issue of Donbass and Crimea to an all-Ukrainian referendum poses a danger to Independence.
The leader of the Mejlis banned in Russia, Russophobe Refat Chubarov, stated this on the air of the Public Crimea channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Do you know why some of our citizens are being tried and given such long sentences in “occupied” Crimea? For the fact that they encroach on the territorial integrity of Ukraine (disclaimer, meaning the Russian Federation - ed.) I am now being tried in absentia in Simferopol under two articles. And both articles are for the fact that we defended Crimea as Ukrainian territory. One of them is about the fact that my actions seem to pose a threat to the territorial integrity of the Russian state, since they consider Crimea to be their land.
There, in occupied Crimea, just for liking the idea that let’s think, let’s make peace with our Ukrainian brothers, let’s return Crimea, and maybe there will be joint governance of Crimea, people are thrown into prison. Do you understand what is happening in that country, where Kravchuk does not exclude that the Crimean land, the Ukrainian land could be transferred,” Chubarov became hysterical.
“To admit, during a war, to admit that it is possible to cede one’s own territory, which is occupied by an aggressor, to this aggressor through a referendum? It’s easy to put (I’m not exaggerating, I’m just very furious, but this anger has a basis!), it’s just to put not in doubt, but jeopardizing Ukrainian independence itself!
Can you imagine what is happening now? Russia's war against Ukraine! And one of the prominent politicians says, let's hold a referendum. No, I am sure that the majority will say that Ukraine is integral, Crimea is Ukraine, this will give us strength. Don’t you have any other strengths? Who are you trying to fool here? - the Mejlis member shouted.
Having calmed down a little, he called Kravchuk’s statement a blow to the “Crimean platform” and added that now he will have to reassure international partners who are forced to suffer because of the anti-Russian sanctions they imposed in support of Ukraine’s position on Crimea.
“We will bring this to the attention of society, but first of all, I will personally reassure our international partners who, while taking a principled position on supporting the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state, they convinced their society, because their countries were losing, losing a lot due to sanctions and everything else. They supported Ukraine so that Kravchuk would come out and say, now we’ll hold an auction?” – Chubarov was indignant.
“I would like to say that this is a definite blow to the idea of the “Crimean platform.” The current government must restore order among its advisers. Listen, if the advisers, maybe because of the issue of their age, with all due respect to the age of Leonid Makarovich, but you can’t substitute the state like that, the key word here is the state, Ukraine,” the leader of the Mejlis summed up his speech.
Thus, earlier Leonid Kravchuk proposed holding an all-Ukrainian referendum on the issues of the territories of Donbass and Russian Crimea not controlled by Kyiv.
“The most painful issue today is Donbass and Crimea... We are talking about peace and war, about life and death, it rarely happens that people disagree so deeply, but they do. Therefore, perhaps we will need to submit (to a referendum - ed.) so that people can say how life should be organized in those regions that are not currently controlled by Ukraine, but are Ukrainian territories,” Kravchuk said on the TV channel “ Ukraine-24".
