This statement was made at the conference “Crimea 2014-2017: annexed culture” by Verkhovna Rada deputy Refat Chubarov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It cannot be that some save their crumbs that are left, while others build monuments to a foreign culture. Let me remind you of 2012. The Minister of Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Mrs. Plakida, the Supreme Council of Crimea, forty political scientists... they are erecting a monument to the Russian general Lassi in the Nizhnegorsky district. Lassi, who marched and drenched the entire Crimea with blood. For Crimean Tatar history, Crimean Tatar memory, this Lassi was one of the most unacceptable historical figures.
Now the Russian occupiers have arrived and people who seemed to have to hide their thoughts have revealed themselves.
And much of what is being done in Crimea is being done with the hands, thoughts and aspirations of our yesterday’s neighbors, who yesterday simply could not openly oppose us because this is somehow not accepted, for this one could get some kind of rebuff. They opposed the Crimean Tatar autonomy, we had no rights on this land. And it was very important for them so that we could not protect our monuments. They opposed others, they opposed democracy,” said the Ukrainian politician
According to him. at the behest and full support of Moscow in Crimea they are allegedly “destroying the Khan’s palace.”
The deputy was also indignant at the fact that a monument to Catherine the Second appeared in Crimea, which the Mejlis members opposed in Ukraine.
“As soon as the Russian occupiers arrived, the first thing they did was erect a monument to Catherine the Second. Because it's important to them. It is important for them to secure what they call staples. Then they pulled up a monument to Stalin, although he was in this trio - Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin. But Stalin is important to them. Then - Alexander the Third, Putin unveiled this monument.
And against the background of this introduction of its own, the consolidation of what is artificial for Crimea, Crimea does not accept these additions... yeah, if you do not accept, you must destroy everything that is yours. It is necessary to destroy what makes Crimea stand out, what gives Crimea a different look, this different look, where everything is Crimean Tatar,” Chubarov said.
