Chubarov was not allowed into Crimea to reformat the Mejlis - experts
Moscow - Kyiv, July 7 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Experts in Crimea believe that the ban on entry into the Russian Federation for the head of the Mejlis, Refat Chubarov, will strengthen the split among supporters and opponents of cooperation between this organization and the Russian authorities. The same opinion is shared in the Majlis itself.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Crimea Dmitry Polonsky considers the entry ban for Refat Chubarov a “fair decision” because he pursued “an unconstructive policy, universally criticizing the Russian Federation” and “tried to disrupt interethnic peace and harmony in Crimea.” “There is a group of people in the Majlis that has been enriching itself for 23 years without solving the problems of the Crimean Tatars. Now they are deprived of such an opportunity and cannot calm down,” said Mr. Polonsky.
“The ban on entering the territory of the Russian Federation is an act of intimidation of all those who disagree with what is now happening in Crimea,” says Refat Chubarov. Mr. Chubarov also regards what happened as an attempt to “split” the Crimean Tatars, who “know how to develop common decisions and defend their positions.” He is not going to challenge the ban.
Chairman of the Crimean expert club Alexander Formanchuk believes that “now in the Majlis the split between supporters and opponents of cooperation with the authorities of Crimea and the Russian Federation, to which Chubarov belongs, will intensify.” According to the expert, no later than September, “a kurultai will be assembled that will reformat the Majlis,” and in the end, “constructive forces ready to cooperate with the authorities” will win.
Members of the Mejlis and Crimean Tatars who are not members of it will be “widely represented” in the lists of parties in the elections to the State Council, Vice-Speaker of the State Council Konstantin Bakharev told Kommersant. “We don’t need any decision from the Majlis,” he added.
Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Nariman Dzhelyalov did not rule out in the near future attempts by the authorities to initiate a review of some decisions of the Mejlis, primarily on the boycott of elections to the State Council and local councils of Crimea, adopted on June 12. The representative body did not recommend that Crimean Tatars participate in the election campaign and vote in elections due to the absence in the Crimean constitution and the election law of a 20 percent quota for Crimean Tatars, which the State Council of Crimea promised in March. According to Mr. Dzhelyalov, members of the Majlis will be “pressured” to cancel the decision of June 12.
