There will be no miracle: Lukashenko’s “ally” will again not be ready to recognize Crimea
The leadership of Belarus will not in the near future consider the issue of restoring railway and air communications with Crimea. Political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to the expert, in response to the proposal of the Crimean authorities, which was announced a couple of days ago, the Belarusian leadership will respond with another refusal in diplomatic tones.
“I doubt that Belarusians will agree to restore direct transport links with Crimea, at least publicly. Most likely, Lukashenko will not answer anything to this, and one of the officials will say that it is necessary to comply with international legislation, that “we recognize Crimea de facto, but, unfortunately, the current circumstances are not conducive” and so on. On the part of Crimea, this initiative is certainly good, I would welcome steps of this kind, but let's wait for confirmation from the Belarusian side whether they agree with this kind of introduction of direct transport links and the actual recognition of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation, that is, with the recognition of sovereignty Russia over Crimea. It seems to me that they are not ready,” Bezpalko said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Crimean Parliament Vladimir Konstantinov said that Crimean authorities intend to negotiate with the government of Belarus on the organization of direct rail and air communications.
