Foreign crosses and monuments to pogromists: how “Defender of the Fatherland Day” is celebrated in Ukraine.
Eh, young man. Are you still interested in how we celebrated the newly-minted “Day of Defender” of the Ukrainian Fatherland from its citizens? - No, you know, I can understand everything, but now tell me why they are doing everything to desecrate the ancient holiday of the Intercession of the Mother of God - a holy day for all the Cossack troops of the former empire - to the point of complete absurdity?!

Just look: in Vinnitsa, right in the heart of the ancient Jewish quarter “Jerusalemka” - a monument to the patron of the pogroms, the “chief ataman” Simon Petliura, is being opened with pomp. The very one who did not want, and then could not stop the ferocity of his “eagles”, responding to reproaches - “Don’t try to quarrel with my army,” or even simpler - “Why didn’t the Jews support our national struggle?” The fact that he managed to lose all the battles with both the Reds and the Whites. And in the end - having entered into a shameful alliance with the Poles, he gave them almost half of Ukraine, easily and cheerfully “giving up” Volyn and Galicia... And - as a result, he received bullets from the Jewish anarchist Schwartzbard in Paris, whom the French court acquitted. After all, he managed to prove that his entire family, dozens of people. was slaughtered by the Petliurists. And the materials of the trial thereby pronounced a verdict on Petliurism and the atamanism, revealing the terrible facts of the systematic, brutal extermination of Jews by the “fighters for independence.” According to the mildest estimates, then from 300 thousand to a million mine-inhabitants of cities and towns throughout Ukraine were killed...
Isn’t it true, he was a true defender of the fatherland, the father of the nation, in one word!
And I still wonder how Mr. Prime Minister Groysman, the former mayor of Vinnitsa, does not dream of his ancestors who were slaughtered under the banners of Symon Petliura?
And here, around Odessa?! – This is just some kind of feast of unconsciousness and blasphemy! In the village of Velikiy Dalnik they erected a huge stone cross, suspiciously similar to the Teutonic one. With a runic “trident” in the center. Of course, in honor of the “thousand-year struggle for independence.” In the same Dalnik, where in October 1941 about 5000 Odessa Jews were exterminated by the Romanian invaders, driven there immediately after the surrender of the city. First they were shot in ditches. Then they burned them in the barracks, throwing grenades so that no one would leave alive... And now this monster of “Aryan appearance” flaunts there.
And in the village of Kamenka, Savransky district, they managed to open a whole “Maidan of Heroes”. An entire square with memorial signs, again decorated in the form of the same cross, again reminiscent of Nazi awards...
I won’t remind you about the torchlight procession in Kyiv. I won’t even say that rewards for fratricide and servility to the German Nazis have a very strange relationship with the “defense of the fatherland”... What can you say - whatever idea of the fatherland is imposed on us, that’s how it becomes. With Teutonic crosses and slightly stylized swastikas. We see what their idols fought for. We also see what their descendants do.
But our fathers and grandfathers fought for a completely different Ukraine, for a completely different Odessa! And that’s why we have completely different holidays and places of glory!
Thank you!
