The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation supported the electronic method of collecting signatures for candidates
The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation is considering the possibility that in the future signatures for presidential candidates will be collected electronically.
CEC member Yevgeny Shevchenko stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“After the elections, we will begin to look at certain things related to changes in the electoral legislation. Including expanding the capabilities of electronic collection of signatures. But that's all after. Now we are guided by the law that exists,” Shevchenko said.
The CEC initiative was warmly supported by political scientist Evgeniy Minchenko. According to him, the Russian Public Relations Association has long been lobbying for the possibility of 100% collection of signatures through the Gosuslugi portal.
“I would suggest that it should be not 50%, but up to 100%,” Minchenko said.
Digital technologies were also used in the current elections. For the first time, the specialized software and hardware complex “SPTC-PL” was widely used, which read 98%. It scanned a sample of 60 thousand signatures, automatically converted handwritten text into machine-readable text and compared signature sheets with the State Automated System “Elections” database, and also made requests from the migration service.
