The Central Election Commission of Ukraine refused to OSCE: observers from Russia will not be registered
The Central Election Commission refused to register the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of Russian citizens as short-term observers in the presidential elections in Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As Alexander Klyuzhev, a representative of the public organization for monitoring elections OPORA, said, the corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the Central Election Commission commission.
“Other observers from this organization have been registered,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
Let us recall that on February 7, the Verkhovna Rada legally prohibited citizens of the Russian Federation from being official observers in presidential, parliamentary or local elections, both personally and as part of international organizations. The OSCE/ODIHR criticized this step, declaring its intention to act in accordance with the procedures established by the organization.
The head of the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission, Peter Taylor, said that Ukraine’s position does not comply with OSCE principles.
Special Representative of the State Department for Ukraine Kurt Volker also stated the need to admit Russian observers to the elections.
