The Central Election Commission of Ukraine threatened deputies with “Plan B”
CEC Chairman Tatyana Slipachuk states that the Commission will announce tenders for early parliamentary elections in accordance with the law, if the problem of timing and procedure for public procurement is not resolved by the Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She stated this today, Ukrinform reports.
“We will announce tenders as established by law,” Slipachuk said, answering the question about further actions of the Central Election Commission if at a meeting of the working group with the participation of representatives of the Central Election Commission, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada there is no public procurement to ensure early elections of people’s deputies problem solved.
At the same time, she emphasized that “the deadline established by law does not correspond to the deadlines established in the electoral legislation.”
“They don't answer. We are entering a critical zone where actual procurement may not be carried out, since we will not have participants, so there will be an appeal, and so on. This is an objective reality,” explained the CEC chairwoman.
In addition, Slipachuk said that the CEC informed the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers about its position regarding public procurement.
“We are not a body with the right of legislative initiative. We can neither pass a law nor make corresponding changes to by-laws. This question is for the subjects who have these powers. And I will be grateful if you raise this issue with them,” added Slipachuk.
As reported, earlier the CEC appealed to the Verkhovna Rada and the government with a request to change the procedure for public procurement to properly ensure the organization of early parliamentary elections on July 21.
