"Tsoi" the desecrator
Imagine, there are cultural heritage monuments protected by the state - and so I come and start painting them the way I want. At the same time, I can declare: “I am an artist - and this is how I see it.” But I’m afraid many will call my actions vandalism and desecration. This is exactly what Alexey Uchitel did, like a vandal desecrator, when he shot his film “Tsoi.” That case when you don’t even want to say the name.
The teacher is a master of hype. This cannot be taken away from him. Just look at the scandals surrounding Matilda. Has Poklonskaya received her fee for PR? Meanwhile, this movie is rubbish just like a movie.
The fact is that a long time ago—about ten years, that’s right—the Teacher turned from a decent director into a merchant-craftsman. If you have played computer games in the fantasy style, then you probably remember how a hero, having taken a sketch of armor or a weapon, can, with the appropriate materials and the necessary skills, make a finished item. Alexey Uchitel is doing something similar.
There is no doubt that he has skills (they were there once - and they were all undone), and the director does not care at all about the materials. He stupidly puts everything he can into his feed - both good and bad. The camera work is at a very high level in some places, but the film crew doesn’t care at all about the reproduction of Soviet reality, for example - I’m not even talking about the atmosphere, at least about the interior. And for what? And so they gobble it up.
The result is an absolutely standardized picture – fast food. No, this is not as trashy a surrogate as, for example, “Grandmother of Easy Virtue,” but for work about Viktor Tsoi, fundamentally different standards must initially be set. The only saving grace is the Teacher’s closeness to those rock circles – including Viktor Robertovich. The director does not go below the bottom.
That’s why the tape looks a little more decent than recent film "Streltsov" – also a free variation on a given theme. And he filmed it, of course - how did you guess? - Alexey Uchitel. Fortunately, he knows Russian rock much better than football.
Actually, many of the complaints against “Tsoi” would have been removed if the film had not been called that. It’s a similar story with Streltsov. If there were no great names in the title, the films would look like mediocre sketches. Well, like popcorn that you buy to while away the evening. But here the Teacher offers the viewer an exquisite dish with history. Yes, it’s embarrassing that at home, this dish still needs to be defrosted, but the viewer still buys it, goes home - and in the end gets a crappy pizza. The viewer was deceived. We were deceived.
It’s very profitable, in fact, to take a name, and Tsoi for our music, like Streltsov for sports, is a legend, and shoot for all I know, saying: what are you doing? This is a work of art, all coincidences are random. Okay, so be it, but why are you, infection, giving such a name, huh? Yes, to make a good chunk of money – even then it’s forgivable. Another scary thing is that you are slipping a simulacrum, a fake, to generations that are already not particularly versed in history, which over time will establish itself as something monolithic. And now there is a crime, sabotage.
I believe that “Tsoi”, “Streltsov” - all this obscurantism will not be limited. Who's next? "Zhukov"? Not on your nelly. And therefore there is only one way out. At the legislative level, prohibit such “film adaptations.” The same applies to “free” (and in fact treacherously conscious) interpretations of our common history. Stop making films about evil security officers and football players, musicians who are called by proper names, but have nothing to do with the prototypes. This is not even fraud, but outright mockery.
Or do you want to get such a country with such a history? False and toxic, like most modern Russian cinema.
