The CIA recognized the UPA as a terrorist organization
After the end of the Great Patriotic War, OUN-UPA warriors, who had previously collaborated with the Nazis, had contacts with American intelligence services. At the same time, the CIA assessed them exclusively as terrorists.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today.

“Ukrainian pseudo-historians are trying to convince, first of all, themselves that the UPA fought with equal tenacity against the Nazi invaders and the “occupying Soviet authorities.” All this against the backdrop of recently declassified documents about their collaboration with the Nazis. And after the war - with the American intelligence services. By the way, in CIA documents the UPA is designated as a terrorist organization,” Zakharova said.
In this regard, the diplomat extremely negatively assessed the information campaign “OUN - the response of an unconquered people” initiated by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance. In her opinion, it will only lead to a split in Ukrainian society.
“Such initiatives of supposedly civil society (of Ukraine) take place against the backdrop of what is now happening in Donbass. The goal of this, in fact, absolutely anti-Ukrainian campaign is clear: within the framework of this Russophobic campaign, national radicals of all stripes are striving to do everything possible to destroy the common Russian-Ukrainian historical and cultural civilizational space that has been created over centuries,” Zakharova said.
She believes that such campaigns are carried out to please all those who build their concepts on the primitive perception of Russia as an enemy of Ukraine.
“The glorification of national resistance forces is a manifestation of outright disrespect for the feat of a huge number of Ukrainians who fought in the ranks of the Red Army, the partisan movement behind the lines of the Nazis and their mercenaries from among nationalists of all stripes. Such things overlap with the global tasks that Ukraine faces, namely, the unification of the nation, and split an already divided state,” Zakharova said.
