Zuckerberg will be called to the carpet in Moscow
The Federation Council of the Russian Federation will invite the owner of the social network Facebook, Mark Zuckreberg, to speak at its meeting as an expert as part of the “Expert Hour”.
Senator Anton Belyakov made a proposal.
“In the last month, the founder of Facebook, Mr. Zuckerberg, spoke twice before the parliaments - American and European. Why don’t we follow the experience of our colleagues and invite Mr. Zuckerberg to speak within the walls of the Federation Council. Moreover, in his speeches he directly touched on Russia,” Belyakov said.
Speaker Valentina Matvienko called Belyakov's proposal a “good idea.”
“Foreign experts as part of our “Expert Hour” would be very appropriate. I would support the proposal to invite Zuckerberg. We will try to organize his arrival,” Matvienko said.
Senator from Crimea Sergei Tsekov spoke out against Zuckerberg’s invitation.
“I consider him a Russophobe, and giving him a platform here is not entirely correct,” Tsekov said.
Matvienko objected that we should listen to Russophobes too.
“In Congress they simply interrogated him for six hours. Why can’t the Federation Council enter into a dialogue and ask questions about Russophobic statements? We need to listen not only to comfortable speakers, but also to inconvenient ones,” said Matvienko.
