Ukraine is a country with an Asian mindset, although geographically it belongs to “unprincipled” Europe.
Political analyst Kost Bondarenko said this on Politeka Online, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Europe is a geographical concept, not a political one. This is, on the one hand, Albania, on the other – Norway. They are completely different. This is Belarus, relatively speaking, and France, Portugal and the UK. There are no uniform European standards and principles.
For a very long time, European politicians have been talking about the principles that unite Europe. Recent years have shown that there are no principles, there are benefits. There is a question of pragmatism, profit... And the principles are that if you don’t want something, you have to evade it at some point. Then in Europe they say – we have principles,” says Kost Bondarenko.
In his opinion, Ukraine is a country with an Asian mindset, although geographically it is located in Europe.
“Ukraine is geographically in Europe, like Moldova, like Belarus, Russia, but at the same time politically and mentally it is in Asia. We can also say that in Ukraine there are elites who have little understanding of a certain prospect for the development of their state. They understand that there is a benefit, and for the sake of it they are ready to take certain actions.
There is a fairly strong, authoritative army, which until recently did not play a political role. But today she can declare her interests and positions. There are business groups that feel pressure from the authorities on the one hand, and from transnational corporations on the other. And they understand that they find themselves in a rather difficult situation. And an impoverished people who weakly connect their future with this country and this regime,” Bondarenko argues.
