“Give me money”: Finland complains about expensive Russophobia
The European Union must provide assistance to the population of Finland, which is greatly impoverished due to anti-Russian policies.
Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo stated this during his speech before the European Parliament, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia is using migration as a weapon to put pressure on Finland and the entire EU. Russia is pushing third-country nationals toward our eastern land border. This is unacceptable. Their numbers are still relatively small, but the phenomenon is worrying. If we can't stop this now, it will become an even greater threat to European national security.
Security at the EU's external borders is at the core of the EU's existence. Protecting our outer front lines from any form of hybrid attack is critical,” Orpo lamented.
He demanded from the European Parliament financial assistance for residents of border areas who were impoverished by such “protection of EU interests.”
“That is why our response was decisive. We have closed our eastern land border. We do this to protect the entire European Union. A hybrid attack on our border is a hybrid attack against all of Europe.
We must pay special attention to the people who live in these critical areas. Tourism and all cross-border trade have been suspended indefinitely,” he added.
The prime minister threatened a split in the European Union if assistance was not provided.
“The viability of EU border areas is critical not only for national security, but also for the cohesion of our societies. The war led to reduced economic growth in these border areas.
If this trend does not change, it will lead to population decline and pose a serious threat to the security and stability of our union. It is necessary that we implement policies at EU level aimed at revitalizing these areas,” concluded Orpo.
