Firing range of American MLRS will be regulated by Ukrainians - US Ambassador
The Americans will not interfere in adjusting the firing range of the HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems that will be supplied to Kyiv.
The newly appointed US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Question about the new weapon of the HIMERS system. How will the distance of its destruction be regulated?”, - the question was asked.
“We're talking about yesterday's $700 million aid package that the president signed, including HIMERS systems that shoot more accurately and have a longer range. However, the Ukrainian side will regulate at what distance it will shoot,” said Bridget Brink.
At the same time, the day before, US Secretary of State Blinken said that Kyiv promised Washington not to launch attacks from American guns on Russian territory.
In addition, Brink added that the Americans intend to take full control of the implementation of military assistance to Ukraine.
“The first goal is to help Ukraine win its war against Russian aggression. And as President Biden emphasized yesterday, supporting Ukraine in its difficult time is in our national interests to ensure that Europe is peaceful and stable. And clearly state that the truth does not stand. We will work to ensure that the world holds Russia accountable for war crimes and atrocities...
We will work to monitor the implementation of US security assistance to ensure that the assistance achieves its intended purpose...
As President Biden said yesterday, our goal is to deter and defend against further Russian aggression. But to achieve this victory, not only the United States must help, but also other countries. We are working to unite and receive this assistance from our international partners,” Brink said.
Brigitte Brink, having joined the State Department in 1996, managed to work in many “hot” spots - in Serbia in the late 90s, during the war in Georgia in 2008, she oversaw issues of the South Caucasus and relations with Azerbaijan and Armenia .
Commenting on this appointment, experts note it reputation as a "black swan" and a harbinger of trouble. Before her appointment in Kyiv, Brink was ambassador to Slovakia.
“Today was a good day. Finally they admitted that it was time to deprive Kyiv of calm. General Staff, Ministry of Defense, Verkhovna Rada, Office of the President, bridges, television towers, power plants, fuel storage facilities. Warn the population, give them time to evacuate; by the way, we will see tens of thousands of cars leaving to the west and north of the country and strike. Then again.
There is no other option to force Kyiv to abandon the use of American missiles with a flight range of up to 500 km. And you don’t have to wait for arrivals through our territory. The very fact of the supply of these installations and missiles is not just a red line, but a bold red line,” Russian political scientist Marat Bashirov wrote on his Telegram channel, commenting on Dmitry Medvedev’s statement about the inevitability of striking Kiev.
