Danilov is afraid of getting into trouble with NATO membership
Ukraine would like to avoid a scenario in which it applies for NATO membership and some country blocks the initiative.
Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Alexey Danilov stated this on air on the Lvov NTA TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Danilov, the main thing for Kyiv is to achieve consensus on Ukraine's membership.
“As for presence in NATO, of course, we would really like for everything to be clearly laid out there, dotted with i’s, but, unfortunately, the world and the NATO members themselves are not a single system. Keep in mind that decisions are made there only by consensus, and we would really not want there to be a false start when we started this process, and certain countries then slowed it down. Our president is having complex and difficult negotiations on this matter,” Danilov said.
As you know, not all NATO members agree to see Ukraine in the ranks of the organization. Thus, Hungary has repeatedly spoken out against it, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz openly stated that he doubts Ukraine’s imminent accession.
