Danilov promised to “humanely return” Donbass
Russia may in the near future officially recognize the Donbass republics, but “humane” Ukraine cannot afford to return these territories by military means.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexey Danilov stated this at a briefing following an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In February, the Russian State Duma will consider draft appeal to Putin regarding the recognition of the so-called LDPR republics. Do you admit that such a scenario could even happen, that they would be recognized, and what the consequences could be?” – asked the journalist.
“Considering that my duties include sometimes getting acquainted with documents that are sometimes considered by those institutions, I cannot be surprised at anything. Because when it comes to these things, anything can happen.
To what extent this can be accepted by the world community and our country - let's see what will happen and how all this will move forward.
Today, the occupied territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions is our land, we will return it. It is the matter of time. But we cannot return it by military means, because we are responsible people - the civilian population will die. We have a responsibility for the civilian population. Despite the fact that we are patriots, we must also be humanists,” Danilov answered.
Let us recall that the day before the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin said that Ukraine is comprehensively preparing to attack to Donbass – to the “OOS” zone being pinched troops, military equipment and lethal weapons received from the West.
