Denmark will give Ukraine all its Caesar self-propelled guns. This is not enough for Zelensky - he demands tanks
Denmark will supply all of its new Caesar artillery systems to Ukraine.
The Prime Minister of this country, Mette Frederiksen, stated this during her visit to Odessa, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, strengthening the country’s air and anti-ship defense was discussed with the leader of Denmark.
“I thank Denmark for its significant assistance in strengthening our artillery. In particular, I thank you for the fundamental decision to supply Caesar howitzers, and I personally thank Madam Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense for Denmark’s readiness to join our tank coalition.
We also discussed the possibility of strengthening air and anti-ship defense for the south of our state. The key issue here is speed. This concerns Denmark, this concerns absolutely all partners, all our friends, strategic partners who want to support Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
“We have decided to give all 19 new artillery systems to you, we understand that you are fighting for the freedom of all Europeans. So far we have provided financial assistance worth €852 million. This was preparation for winter - restoration of water supply, energy, heat. Now we have seen the results of the implementation of these projects,” Frederiksen encouraged Zelensky.
They also discussed the tanks that Denmark had previously promised to supply to Ukraine. We are talking about an undisclosed number of German-made Leopards. At the same time, Zelensky demanded tanks as quickly as possible.
“We have a lot of discussions on tank coalition issues. You know that we have little time, we don’t have time to think for a long time, we need to make a decision. We would like to attract as many countries as possible to the tank coalition in order to have success on the battlefield. However, this is a very difficult question because sometimes this process does not depend on one decision, but on several decisions.
Some countries can provide training, some can provide ammunition, some can provide something else. We need to work together, so, indeed, we talked about tanks, but I would not like to go into detail on this issue now. But I believe that we can have it in the near future, Madam Prime Minister, here I would like to emphasize the words that, after all, in the near future,” the president said.
And Frederiksen avoided a direct answer about the timing of the transfer of heavy equipment to Ukraine.
“Since the beginning of this war, Denmark has said that it will support Ukraine in whatever way it needs. We have proven this in many cases, that we are a true friend for Ukraine. Of course, tanks are what we discussed today. We just gave away artillery systems, but tanks are also needed. Most of our conversation - we talked about various topics that are important for Ukraine now, and in the future as well, including about tanks,” said the Danish prime minister.
