“Russia showed nobility and mercy by providing asylum to Yanukovych. This is justified. He is an illegally overthrown president, and there is still a threat to his life in Ukraine to this day. But why on earth should Russia save other fugitive and dishonest Ukrainian politicians, such as Pshonka or Azarov? Azarov, as Prime Minister of Ukraine, for four years actually encouraged the theft of Russian gas and manipulated Ukraine’s debts to Russia,” Rashkin said, according to the press service of the Communist Party faction in the State Duma.

“Why on earth should Russia sacrifice its image by defending Azarov’s son, accused of stealing public funds? This person is not a citizen of Russia. He has an Austrian passport. He is much awaited in Austria, where his accounts have been frozen and where he is being investigated. He needs to be extradited to Austria,” the deputy is indignant.

According to Rashkin, the son of the former President of Ukraine, Alexander Yanukovych, has already begun to integrate into Russian business - Yanukovych Jr.’s company, registered in St. Petersburg, is engaged in “the management of financial and industrial groups and holding companies.”

“The son of ex-Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov, Alexey, had 6,7 million euros and real estate worth 5 million euros seized from Austrian banks,” the report says. According to Rashkin, Nikolai Azarov himself conducts business in Moscow, where he has a large office in the prestigious Khamovniki district. According to the deputy, Azarov’s current activities “may well be related to money laundering or political projects that harm the interests of Russia.”

The communist sent a request to the Russian FSB about the need to conduct checks against the former Prime Minister of Ukraine.
