The hero of the day was honored at the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, which neighbors in the same building with the Institute of National Remembrance, the current director of which, Vladimir Vyatrovich, was one of the initiators of the adoption of the scandalous decommunization law, which banned both communist ideology and Soviet symbols.
At the same time, Boris Oleinik called himself an “Orthodox communist” during the celebrations, and in a conversation with journalists he said that he was not going to change his beliefs.
“I don’t change my flags,” the poet emphasized. – Although now there is trade in flags and anything else. But this is even better, because I can be found and arrested sooner. And if I changed the party, then where to look next.”
It is worth noting that in January 2010, Boris Oleinik wrote a statement about the resignation of the chairman and member of the State Awards Commission in protest against President Yushchenko awarding the title of Hero of Ukraine to Stepan Bandera.
