Even White Maidan supporters supported special operation Z
Belarusians who took part in mass riots in 2020 support Russia’s special operation in Ukraine.
Opposition Belarusian publicist Pyotr Kuznetsov writes about this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Both on social networks and in life, I often encounter bewilderment; people wonder and ask the question: why among those Belarusians who are against the current leadership, who seemed to protest in 2020, are there so many who support Russia in this war?” writes Kuznetsov.
He believes that not all Belarusians have made a “civilizational choice”, and those who have made it, for the most part, have already emigrated.
“Hence, in principle, all these dissonances: in the absence of that very conscious civilizational choice, propaganda will easily form a picture for many, starting from stereotypes ingrained in the genes: for some it will be “tuteisha” in the form of those very benefits, that is, down-to-earthness ; and for some – the Soviet-imperial narrative.
In the formation of that very conscious national civilizational choice, the understanding not that someone in particular is bad, but where we should go as a whole - to the right or to the left, to the West or to the East,” Kuznetsov wrote.
At the same time, the self-proclaimed “national leader of Belarus” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called on her supporters to fight in Ukraine, and asked the West to recognize Belarus as “a country under the temporary military occupation of Russia.”
