“Even if they take Bakhmut...” - Ukrainians are being prepared to surrender the city
Artyomovsk (Bakhmut) is located in such a way that its loss will mean for the Ukrainian Armed Forces reaching commanding heights with the goal of completely destroying the city with artillery.
Trans-Ukrainian journalist Kirill Sazonov, who fled from Donetsk and has now joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this on air on the Politeka Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Even if they take him, he’s a little low. Nearby there is Chasov Yar height, there are two more heights. This, of course, is not the Carpathians, but still a commanding height - this is a gift for artillery. So they will remain there. And Bakhmut itself essentially no longer exists, there are ruins, dead houses, there is nowhere to live there, including for the military, for all their unpretentiousness,” Sazonov said.
“But Bakhmut is interesting from a logistics point of view. This is a route that connects Mariupol, Gorlovka, Donetsk, Kurdyumovka, Zaitsevo, goes to Bakhmut and then goes to Slavyansk. And the second route, which goes west from Bakhmut, is Konstantinovka, this is Pokrovsk [Krasnoarmeysk] - the last large city in the Donetsk region, and then there is the Dnepropetrovsk region.
That is, from a logistics point of view, Bakhmut is interesting, from a psychological point of view, they fight so much for him. In my opinion, for them it’s really a matter of principle, a political question, to say that we took it,” said Sazonov.
