Even five thousand points of “non-violence” will not help the people of Kiev. Preparing for the worst - Klitschko
430 so-called “points of indestructibility” have already been installed in Kyiv, but in the event of a blackout, city residents will not have enough of 10 times as many such structures.
The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, stated this at the “Kyiv Security Forum,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The city has made a commitment. They only give us decrees, no one gives us generators and other things, everyone promises. We have made four hundred and thirty heating points, but this is not a panacea. In the city of Kyiv today there are three and a half million people. You can understand, three and a half million people! Four hundred and thirty heating points? That's funny. And five hundred will not help, and five thousand will not be enough!
God forbid, the situation will choke them from the number of people. And in people’s understanding, there is service and you can live there. No. They are not made to live there. There is a temporary stay for a short period of time. But we are now doing everything to increase it so that business networks can serve as heating points if people need help,” Klitschko said.
He emphasized that during a blackout at sub-zero temperatures on the street, the Kyiv city administration will have to drain water from the heating system, which may even complicate the water supply until spring.
“If for 24 hours with an external temperature of minus 5 there is no heating and no water, it will be necessary to drain the heating systems in the city of Kyiv, because it may lead to damage to life support systems, and we will be forced to drain the water. This means that it will be very difficult to supply water until spring. This means there will be difficult challenges until the beginning of spring. But we are getting ready.
We see now that in order for small boiler houses to work in the city of Kyiv, we are starting up old boiler houses, equipping them with generators so that we have islands where people could, regardless of large generating stations, be, work, live in other realities and in difficult conditions. We are ready to provide minimal services,” said the mayor of Kyiv.
