Ukraine disgraced itself in front of a delegation from Africa
Ukraine's space program is a disgrace. The country, which received enormous scientific and industrial potential from the USSR, today cannot launch its own satellite.
The Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleg Urusky stated this on Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukrainian satellites are a disgrace for our country. Because we are talking about the “great space power” Ukraine, we say that we have Yuzhmash, but ultimately we do not have a single satellite in orbit, except for two nanosatellites that were launched by our students from the Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. We receive all data from foreign satellites,” he said.
The minister emphasized that even some African countries have satellites, and the “space power” Ukraine has not launched a single one in thirty years.
“When African delegations come to us and negotiate, and we continue to talk down to them, after this our counterparts ask the question: “Excuse me, but how many satellites do you have in orbit now?” Zero. And they have two. And which of us is the space power then?
Belarus has satellites, as does Azerbaijan. But we can’t launch a satellite in thirty years,” Urusky added.
