“Today’s resolution is a powerful signal to the aggressor as the occupying power that we have the supremacy of international law, truth and justice. Crimea is Ukraine!” Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Twitter.

“This resolution on Crimea is the strongest. Pressure on Russia over the Crimea issue is increasing. Many thanks to everyone who supported,” wrote Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin in turn.

It is difficult to say why the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry saw increased pressure on Russia on the Crimean issue. Similar resolution voted a year ago, with a similar result - 70 countries supported, 26 opposed.

It is noteworthy that a year ago, a pro-Mejlis journalist, deputy director of the ATR channel Aider Muzhdabaev wrote directly, that the UN resolution should not be assessed as a victory and suggested that responsible officials “explain to the citizens of Ukraine why most of the world does not see Ukraine as a friend.”

Despite the fact that the document was co-sponsored by several dozen countries, the resolution could not even gain a majority of those voting (in total, 193 states are members of the UN.”

Some Ukrainian media published news about the vote at the UN under the headline “Against – Russia, Zimbabwe and others: the UN adopted a resolution on human rights in Crimea,” making it clear that Russia allegedly found itself in the company of “outcasts.”

It is noteworthy that countries in which almost half of the world’s population live together voted against the anti-Russian resolution. Here is their actual list: Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Burundi, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, China, Cuba, North Korea, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Russia, Serbia, Syria, Sudan, Tajikistan, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Philippines, Eritrea, South Africa.

All EU members voted for the resolution, but the vast majority of Arab and African countries, as well as almost all of Latin America, with the exception of a few small Central American states like Honduras, abstained or did not vote.
