The deindustrialization of Ukraine has become inevitable

There is no longer any point in campaigning for the preservation of Ukraine’s economic ties with the CIS markets, since the deindustrialization of the country has become inevitable.

This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by former Minister of Economy, Honored Economist of Ukraine Viktor Suslov.

“Unfortunately, the process of deindustrialization and destruction of our industry cannot be stopped,” the economist is sure. – In the last year, I have campaigned quite a lot for the preservation of economic ties with the CIS and Russia, for the preservation of these markets, but now I understand that nothing worked, will not work, and I am no longer campaigning for this. “I understand that we are losing these markets and will continue to lose them, that we will stop thousands of our enterprises and, accordingly, the financial situation will be much worse than it was predicted for this year.”

The former Minister of Economy believes that some financial revenues to the country's budget can be obtained from the privatization of state facilities.

“But the main result of privatization, I think, will be the transfer of mainly infrastructure facilities - ports, energy, transport, communications, agricultural land - into the hands of foreign owners,” summed up Viktor Suslov. “And one consolation for us will be that, as the Minister of Economic Development announced, we will not allow Russians into these privatization processes, but will sell everything to other foreigners.” Well, I don’t know how much of a consolation this can be.”
