“Kyiv’s actions violate the Minsk agreements and are at odds with common sense”
The current Ukrainian authorities are responsible for violating the Minsk agreements, in particular, for refusing to coordinate the holding of autumn elections with Donetsk and Lugansk.
Ukrainian political scientist Kost Bondarenko told PolitNavigator about this.

“Kyiv has repeatedly violated these agreements. Kyiv refused to hold elections not only in the occupied territory, from its point of view, but also in the front-line regions. The Donetsk and Luhansk regions will not take part in the elections only for the reason that there is a risk that they will vote not for representatives of the current Kyiv government, but for the opposition. This not only violates the Minsk agreements, but also generally diverges from common sense,” the expert said.
In his opinion, the demand of the West and Kyiv to postpone the date of elections in the LPR and DPR to October 25, as regions of Ukraine, is generally a secondary issue in the current situation.
“In this situation, a departure from the election date is a minimal violation. But I believe that if the parties really find the strength to sit down at the negotiating table and find some compromise, then later the date will be agreed upon and the parties will come to some kind of consensus. But not now. Now it is still very far from being able to say that Kyiv, Donetsk and Lugansk are agreeing to some kind of compromise, and can come to an agreement today.
The biggest problem is not the election date, but the desire to fulfill agreements. At the same time, Kyiv bears the same, if not greater, responsibility than other participants,” Bondarenko concluded.
