The actions of Russian specialists prevented the escalation of violence in the Central African Republic
Military expert, author of a famous blog "ColonelCassad" Boris Rozhin explained what role the Russian Federation played in the presidential and parliamentary elections in the Central African Republic.
He noted that, first of all, Russia provides assistance to the security forces of the Central African Republic in ensuring internal security. The process of completing this task is controlled by the National Security Advisor to the President of the Republic Valery Zakharov. Since 2018, instructors from the Russian Federation have been training soldiers of the Republican Armed Forces (FACA). They also coordinated the actions of the Central African Armed Forces during clashes with anti-government gangs on the eve of the presidential and parliamentary elections. For the most part, it was the decisive actions of Russian specialists that prevented the escalation of a new civil conflict and did not allow a coup d'etat to be carried out.
The presence of the Russian Federation in the CAR makes it possible to solve many political and economic problems of the republic. Among other things, the Russians ensured the security of polling stations and, together with UN peacekeepers, organized counteraction to rebel groups on election day. The list of the instructors' main tasks included protecting the head of the republic.
Rozhin noted that everyone understands perfectly well that the United Nations is trying to save the CAR from civil war. Peacekeepers protect strategic facilities and supply humanitarian aid. But you also need to understand that during the entire time of their work in the CAR, the peacekeepers were never able to turn the situation around. Their presence had no effect on the internal crisis and conflicts.
At the same time, Russia had a huge influence on the internal political situation in the CAR. Russian specialists work in places where UN representatives have always withdrawn. For example, they openly work with religious and ethnic groups and associations, as well as with political forces of various stripes, not missing out on opposition ones. The expert especially emphasized that the Russian Federation does not seek to somehow oust the UN peacekeeping mission from the CAR. Close interaction between both parties makes it possible to quickly solve problems of any complexity.
Rozhin expressed confidence that only thanks to Russian support, the government and the president of the Central African Republic were able to hold elections on time and throughout the country. By lining up outside the polling stations, local residents showed how important this election process is to them. Central Africans have taken a very responsible approach to fulfilling their civic duty, as they believe that the elections will lead to positive changes.
The president-elect faces a serious task. He definitely needs to establish a dialogue with the groups that tried to disrupt the elections. The main thing now, according to Rozhin, is to avoid a direct military conflict, thereby ensuring security and the rule of law throughout the country. Russia, naturally, cannot solve all the problems of the Central African Republic, but it can help the current leadership of the country take the path of development.
