Decommunization of the friendship of peoples: a monument to workers will be demolished in Kyiv
The Ukrainian authorities have decided to abandon the idea of completely demolishing the famous Soviet sculpture – the Arch of Friendship of Peoples, which is located in the center of Kyiv. Dismantling the monument would cost Ukraine about 7,4 thousand dollars.

The figures of two workers holding a hammer and sickle, symbolizing the Ukrainian and Russian working class, near the Arch are planned to be demolished.
The Arch of Peoples' Friendship is located in the center of the Ukrainian capital. The monument was opened on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Soviet Union. The composition consists of a tall metal rainbow and a bronze sculpture of workers, symbolizing the unity of the proletariat of Ukraine and Russia.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Yevgeny Nishchuk, stated that the Arch was planned to be demolished, and in its place a monument should be erected in honor of the ATO militants.
