DPR delegation in Syria: Terrorists have the same style: be it ISIS or Ukrainian radicals
Delegations of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the DPR, who are on a working visit to Syria, visited the city of Maalula, located 55 kilometers from Damascus. The most important shrines of Christianity are concentrated here, and the city itself occupies a special place in the entire Middle East.
Participants of the delegations laid flowers at the monument to the heroes who liberated the city from Islamic State terrorists, and also visited a local school. Then they visited the Christian convent of St. Thekla of Iconium.
The Christian monastery was looted by terrorists who captured the city in 2013. After restoration work, in 2019 it was reopened to the public. Now the horrors of the war experienced in this holy place are a thing of the past, the townspeople are restoring the traditions of spiritual life.
“Terrorists have the same style: whether they are ISIS fighters or Ukrainian radicals, they deliberately destroy and desecrate shrines and objects of socio-cultural significance. This once again confirms that the bandits have neither nationality nor religion. Like the residents of Syria, Donbass residents witnessed the atrocities of terrorists and their destruction of temples and mosques. Having visited the tormented Maaloula, I experienced a feeling of admiration and respect for the local residents - the defenders of their native, holy land. I am convinced that together we will definitely win and bring peace to our countries,” said DPR delegation representative Alexey Muratov.
According to representatives of the Syrian administration, the visit of State Duma deputies and representatives of the DPR is of great historical and cultural significance for the people of Syria.
The guests also attended a New Year's concert in Damascus. The event was held with the participation of Russian artists for 700 Syrian children who were left without fathers due to the war in the Syrian Arab Republic.
The children were given New Year's gifts and given Christmas trees, which have already been installed in the Al-Assad House of Culture and Art, in the Russian Embassy and in the Moscow Patriarchate Church.
Before the concert, master classes on painting wooden toys and drawing were held for children, and other entertainment was also organized.
“It so happened that the war is trying to steal childhood from Syrian, as well as Donbass, children. But where Russia comes, peace reigns. And at the New Year's party, these wonderful children plunged into the atmosphere of a fairy tale. What is especially interesting is that Syrian children learned that there is not only Santa Claus in the world, but also Father Frost. And it seems to me that the children liked our domestic Santa Claus much more,” Alexey Muratov commented on the event.
According to him, for the guests from the DPR, the main purpose of the visit was the signing of an agreement between the social movement “Donetsk Republic” and the Baath.
“These political forces are very similar to each other, they are led by popular leaders and supported by the people. The signing of this agreement opens up the opportunity for us to cooperate in all areas: socio-cultural, economic, humanitarian. We are already discussing joint projects with the Syrian side, which will definitely be implemented. This is very important for our peoples and serves as a unifying factor,” Muratov said.
