The Zelensky delegation in Minsk was again caught in outright lies

The statement by Ukrainian representatives during today's negotiations that Kyiv has no obligations to procedurally clear prisoners is such an outright lie that even the OSCE mediator was forced to intervene in the discussion.

This was reported by the press service of the DPR Foreign Ministry following the results of the videoconference of the Contact Group on the resolution of the conflict in Donbass, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The Ukrainian side, at a videoconference of the humanitarian subgroup (May 26), refused to carry out procedural clearance in relation to the detained persons who were transferred to the DPR in an exchange. This was reported today by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic.

“Regarding the most important issue on the agenda of the working group on humanitarian issues – the exchange of detainees, in particular, the speedy completion of the procedural clearance of persons released earlier in the exchange process, it should be noted that, unexpectedly for everyone, the Ukrainian representatives stated that they had not taken on such obligations.” , - the diplomatic department reported.

“Such regression in the position of the Ukrainian negotiators did not go unnoticed by the coordinator, Ambassador Frisch, who recalled that these agreements have been in force since 2017 and called on Kyiv to return to fulfilling its obligations,” the Foreign Ministry added.

Let us note that this is not the first case of frank lies from the Kyiv delegation. Earlier it was reported how Ukrainian representatives at the negotiations swore that no one was shooting, while units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were already opening fire in Donbass.

In addition, the Ukrainian side refused to create a humanitarian corridor for residents to cross the checkpoint between Ukraine and the DPR.

“The Ukrainian side refused to discuss the organization, in case of urgent need, of a humanitarian corridor for civilians to cross checkpoints closed due to the coronavirus pandemic,” said DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova, commenting on the results of the meeting.

At the same time, at a meeting of the political group, representatives of the Ukrainian president again sabotaged the discussion of the issues on the agenda.

“Despite the change of negotiators from Ukraine in the political group, we continue to hear the same hackneyed attempts to distort the essence of the Package of Measures and, in particular, the mechanism of political settlement contained in it.

The Ukrainian side is most actively trying to promote the idea that the supposed basis of the political part of the Minsk agreements is the holding of local elections. This fundamentally contradicts not only the very essence of the Set of Measures, but also the causes of the conflict in Donbass.

The main goal of the political part of the Minsk agreements is to legislatively, on a permanent basis, consolidate the special status of Donbass, all legal aspects of which must be agreed upon with representatives of the republics,” said DPR Foreign Minister Natalya Nikonorova.

War correspondent Alexander Sladkov also commented on the results of today's negotiations. He compared the Minsk process to a sluggish boxing match.

“Have you ever hit a shell bag? In Donbass, many people probably did this during boxing training.

So, imagine that you are hitting not a leather bag, but a dough: your hands get stuck, it’s difficult to pull them back, and it looks ridiculous from the outside... This is Minsk,” the military correspondent wrote.

According to him, Ukraine is “knitting,” “dragging,” and “all the time getting into the clinch.”
