Delyagin: The Chinese are leaving Russia. We can be left without the Internet
Western sanctions may lead to the fact that household Internet will soon disappear in Russia.
Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, economist Mikhail Delyagin stated this on air on the Assenizator Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Sanctions will increase. And, most importantly, there will be a delayed effect of sanctions. We look at the situation immediately: sanctions have been announced, but it’s okay, we move on with our lives. And they have an accumulated effect, primarily technological. For example, so-called secondary sanctions will expand.
For example, Huawei is leaving Russia. On May 5, there was a rumor that Cisco was leaving Russia. This is an Internet router. If they blocked everything from us, we would be left with life support systems, strategic systems, and Huawei. And now this same “Huawei” is leaving,” Delyagin said.
He emphasized that after some time, household Internet may completely disappear from Russia if the country's leadership does not take decisive measures.
“I hope that during these ten months ours have tweaked something and installed some kind of duplicate Internet routing systems. In March there was extremely unstable Internet for civilian sectors. Nothing fatal, because we transferred the life support system in 2015, but the civilian Internet was lagging.
But then we had Huawei. After a while he will be gone,” the deputy concluded.
