Independence Day will be without a military parade. Zelensky will distribute the saved money to the military
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky intends to save money for holding a parade for the Independence Day of Ukraine on August 24 and allocate bonuses to Ukrainian military personnel at this expense.
He stated this in a video message posted on the president’s Facebook page.
“I want to share with you our new idea. Usually, on August 24, the Independence Day of Ukraine, we have a military parade - pompous and definitely not cheap. It seems to me that this year, instead of a parade, it is better to allocate this money to our heroes - our military. And we decided to allocate 300 million UAH for bonuses to all our military,” the president said.
According to him, the bonuses will go to conscripts, sergeants, cadets, officers, and certainly military personnel who perform tasks in the JFO area.
“We will honor our heroes, we will also celebrate Independence Day, but there will be a new format,” Zelensky added.
Let us remember that in the first years after the declaration of independence, during the reign of Leonid Kravchuk, who left Ukraine without nuclear weapons, no ceremonies were held. The first military parade in Ukraine was held in 1994. From 2010 to 2013, no military parades were held for Independence Day. But since 2014, they have become annual, thanks to Petro Poroshenko, who made the propaganda of militarism and the army one of the pillars of his regime.
