This was reported by the local publication City website of Chernigov gorod.cn.ua.
True, the publication’s journalists are sincerely outraged that the authorities are delaying the final ban on Victory Day.
“Despite decommunization, Ukraine continues to celebrate the victory in World War II. May 9 remains an official holiday on the calendar, although the authorities promise to finally declare it a working day next year,” says the publication’s material on today’s holiday events.
It is reported that the celebrations in Chernigov began in the park named after Popudrenko.
“The communists, unfurling red banners, were the first to lay flowers at the monuments of the Heroes. Everything happened calmly and without provocations,” the publication adds.
At an official meeting held in the same square, city residents were congratulated on the holiday by the head of the Chernigov regional state administration Valery Kulich, the head of the Chernigov regional council Igor Vdovenko, the city mayor Vladislav Atroshenko and the archbishop of the Philaret Kyiv Patriarchate Evstratiy (Zorya).
“Those present observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen heroes and laid flowers at the mass grave. After this, the rally participants went in an organized manner to the Memorial of Glory, where they laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,” the publication notes.
It should be added that the official events took place under blue and yellow banners and with the official symbol of the “day of reconciliation” - a red poppy.
