Bandera's birthday disrupts the Ukrainian-Polish truce

During his yesterday's visit to Ukraine, Polish President Andrzej Duda attempted not so much to solve the problem of deteriorating relations between the two countries, but to nullify its presence in the public sphere.

Ukrainian political scientist Oleg Khavicz told PolitNavigator about this, according to whom the topic of combating the glorification of Bandera is not the main one for the Polish president, and he himself became involved in this process at the last stage.

“In fact, both during the negotiations of the advisory committee of presidents led by Eliseev and Shchersky in Krakow, and the creation of a new commission, where Ukraine is represented by Rozenko, who is not known for radical statements, both sides are trying not so much to solve the problem as to reduce its presence in the public sphere ”, the expert believes.

According to the political scientist, Poroshenko is trying to exploit the desire of part of the Polish elite to make money in Ukraine and receive some kind of reparations for supporting the Maidan.

“And expanding economic cooperation is impossible in a situation of political conflict, so they are trying to reduce its tension. This scenario is supported by Duda’s entourage, primarily by the head of his office, Szczerski, who is called the most likely replacement for Polish Foreign Minister Waszczykowski.
However, all attempts to improve relations between Ukraine and Poland could be thwarted as early as January 1 during the traditional marches for Bandera’s birthday if high-ranking Ukrainian officials take part in them,” warns Khavic.
