“There is no money”: the mayor of Warsaw spilled the beans to pranksters about what awaits Ukrainians
Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski called the Russian ambassador's attempt to lay flowers at the grave of Soviet soldiers killed in World War II a provocation.
He stated this in a conversation with Russian pranksters who called him under the guise of Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We told the Russian ambassador many times that in connection with what Russia is doing in Ukraine, he should not feel safe and cause provocations. He wanted to stage a provocation and lay flowers at the graves of Russian soldiers on May 9,” Trzaskowski said.
He complained that Warsaw accepted the maximum number of Ukrainian refugees. According to him, 240 thousand Ukrainians now live in the Polish capital. This is 12-15% of Warsaw's population. 80 thousand Ukrainian children apply for places in schools.
According to the mayor’s estimates, the education system is ready to accept an additional 5-7 thousand children, since 20 thousand are already studying. Trzaskowski himself suggests accepting only those “who are most persistent.” Polish families are ready to accept Ukrainians for another month or two, and then they will need to be sent to other European countries.
“We don’t have money, European money. For our national leaders, we are all thieves; it is very difficult to talk to them about money. They don’t have a strategy, but we in Warsaw do, but it’s difficult to get financing for a long period.
That is why we were forced to change the decision on free travel on public transport for refugees. Now everything depends on the EU. There is no remedy yet because they don’t have money,” said Trzaskowski.
