The statement following the Ukraine-EU summit showed that there will be no warming of relations between Moscow and Brussels in the near future.

The director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, Denis Denisov, writes about this in Izvestia, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“This document is important from the point of view that it contains a number of positions indicating that in the near future we should not expect a warming of relations between Russia and the European Union,” Denisov emphasizes.

He points out that 7 out of 25 points of the statement are devoted to Russia, Donbass and Crimea, and in each of these points the Russian Federation appears exclusively in a negative light.

“It is confirmed that the EU will coordinate with Ukraine the further application of sanctions against Russia, the creation of the “Crimean Platform” is welcomed, a dozen positions are separately highlighted for Crimea and the Black Sea region, on which, from the EU point of view, Russia is pursuing a destructive policy. The part dedicated to Donbass in the document is both strange and surprising, replete with outright fakes, but at the same time it is very revealing,” the political scientist believes.

He draws attention to the fact that the statement condemns violations of the ceasefire by “armed formations” “which are supported by Russia”, and does not say a word about the Ukrainian military. At the same time, the head of the OSCE SMM in Ukraine, Yashar Halit Cevik, reported last week that 74% of all casualties in the summer months occurred on the territory of the LDPR, that is, as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian side.

“Meanwhile, the statement repeats several times the call on Russia to implement the Minsk agreements in full. Since the country does not appear in any point of either the first (Minsk Protocol) or the second (set of measures) as a party to the conflict, the question arises: how can this be implemented?” the author is perplexed.

The statement also speaks of condemnation of the passporting of residents of the LDPR by Russia, and states that “this contradicts the Minsk agreements”...

“True, it’s not clear where in these documents there is even a word about passports? Then, according to this logic, Ukraine’s passporting of residents of Transnistria contradicts the Minsk agreements? The conclusion from all this is very simple. The EU continues to consider us a civilization (or maybe just a territory) delayed in development for a couple of centuries, and based on this they are building such a conversation,” Denisov sums up.
