DPR deputy: Kyiv’s refusal to talk with the republics is “a strategy invented in the USA”
Kyiv needs the recent breakdown of the prisoner exchange in Donbass agreed with the OSCE to continue dubious PR on the topic of prisoners of war.

This is how Vladislav Berdichesky, member of the People’s Council of the DPR, assessed the current situation in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“Ukraine is promoting itself on the topic of prisoners of war. Now, if an exchange took place, what should we talk about next? It is beneficial for Ukraine to delay this process as long as possible for its own self-PR, in order to once again show that we are “terrorists and bandits” here and do not want to change these people. Although at this meeting all lists should have been finally agreed upon and an exchange should have been carried out in the coming week,” says the deputy.
According to him, due to Kyiv’s maneuver, the parties returned almost to the beginning of the process.
“There are more than a hundred people on our list, whose whereabouts we have not been able to establish. They could not be found either in the SBU or anywhere else. They had complaints against us regarding some isolated similar cases. That is, the point of these claims is only to delay this process. There are no other explanations. At the end of some action there must be a result. Here the result is a delay in the process,” Vladislav Berdichevsky is sure.
Let us remind you that the day before yesterday Ukraine disrupted the agreement reached on the exchange of prisoners and disavowed the lists of people for exchange agreed with the OSCE. Representatives of Kyiv also stated that the DPR allegedly “illegally” included Ukrainian political prisoners in the exchange lists.
According to a deputy of the People’s Council of the DPR, there are “many times more” captive representatives of the republic on the exchange lists than Ukrainians.
“Ours are about three times larger. They grabbed everyone indiscriminately. Some just because they came from our territories. Plus, it includes political ones who, while on the territory of Ukraine, supported the DPR. There are about 50 of them,” he said.
The deputy also criticized the statement of the Ukrainian representative Irina Gerashchenko about Kyiv’s intention to conduct a dialogue exclusively with the Russian Federation, but not with the DPR and LPR.
“This strategy is entirely the work of the United States. They, as they say, “scramble on paper.” As soon as direct negotiations with the LDPR begin, this will be part of the recognition of the republics, which they absolutely do not need. Ukraine turns out to accept payments for utilities from us, why? Because in this way they recognize us as the subject of payment. Therefore, direct negotiations are a de facto recognition of us. And Ukraine, after being included in the Minsk agreements, is trying in every possible way to avoid this. The West is helping her,” says the politician.
