Donbass, Ukraine

The overwhelming majority of Kyiv politicians and representatives of the media community, even after the change of the President of Ukraine, demonstrate a refusal to accept the point of view of Donbass, so residents of the LDPR will continue to defend the choice made in the 2014 referendum, and the upcoming mass receipt of Russian passports will confirm this.

Deputy of the People's Council of the DPR Valery Skorokhodov said this on Channel One, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

During the program, a discussion ensued about the possibility of negotiations between Kyiv and the LDPR after Vladimir Zelensky came to power.

The head of the Ukrainian public organization “European Choice” Kirill Zhivotovsky supported the idea of such negotiations.

“These 1917 days in our country there was a priority of the state. Now we have a chance with President Zelensky to change this priority to the priority of the person, where the life and health of the residents of both Lviv and Donetsk will be valued,” Zhivotovsky said.

Presenter Artyom Sheinin expressed skepticism, drawing attention to another guest from Ukraine present in the studio - political scientist Pavel Zhovnirenko, who voiced the position of the Kyiv mainstream, where the LDPR is still perceived exclusively as “terrorists” and “separatists.”

“But what will you do with the collective Zhovnirenko in the minds of some of your politicians and society?” Sheinin said.

“Here was my title, it said “Head of the NGO “European Choice,” and I ask myself the question: why, going to Europe, should we kill my brother in Donetsk?” – noted Zhivotovsky.

“So ask Zhovnirenko this question,” the presenter suggested.

“Pal Grigorievich, why should we kill people in Donetsk for their disagreement with the fact that we are going to Europe?” – the social activist turned to his fellow countryman.

“Who said we have to kill them? Why should we kill? Russia came along with Girkin and started killing our people,” Zhovnirenko shrugged it off.

“This is now Ukraine in its purest form,” Sheinin noted.

Then the topic turned to how Donbass could return to the control of Kyiv, and whether it could return at all.

“Part of Donbass has left Ukraine, and I personally cannot imagine under what conditions and under what conditions the current Donbass can return even to some other Ukraine. But Ukrainian politicians continue to talk about it,” the presenter noted.

“Are you ready to talk about something and negotiate with Valery, given that he and the people he represents live in Donbass, and they are alive and real? Yes, they do not fit into your ideas and principles, but either you talk to them, or you have another option,” Sheinin addressed Zhovnirenko, referring to the DPR deputy Skorokhodov mentioned above.

“When we talk about people in Donbass, these are completely different people. I’m talking about all people, and this is an official of a terrorist entity called the DPR. These people are one tenth of one percent, the rest do not hold any positions,” the Bandera member stubbornly stated.

“Are you going to return Donbass to Ukraine? As soon as you say that there are one tenth of one percent like Valery, it means that you have no answer,” commented Sheinin.

Skorokhodov recommended remembering his opponent’s words about “one tenth of a percent” when Donbass residents complete their registration for Russian citizenship.

“We’ve been through this before, these fairy tales. In fact, everything is very serious, and Mr. Zelensky has a very difficult choice. On the one hand, there is pressure from such primitive people, to whom you give a grenade, they go wherever they want... and, on the other hand, there are people like Kirill, who after five years are tired of this, they were not against it before, but they were afraid,” added the Donetsk deputy

“I would like to say for our people in Donbass, the question is really important, they are now looking and thinking: are we really going to go back to some kind of Ukraine? Over the past five years, the Ukrainian government and American patrons have done everything to neutralize such chances. We have a common platform in Minsk to agree on a ceasefire, on establishing economic ties, because we have been tied up for decades, tied up in the cultural sphere to again heal our wounds and gradually move away from the war.

But if we raise the question that Donbass will return to Ukraine, I will say for our people: everything will be fine with us, we made our choice in 2014 on May 11 and have not left it for five years, and the result of this is Russian citizenship for our residents . Therefore, we have nothing in common with Bandera’s Ukraine and never will,” summed up Valery Skorokhodov.
