Member of the European Parliament: The EU will continue to import energy resources from the Russian Federation
European countries will continue to pretend that they do not buy Russian energy resources, but in fact buy them through intermediaries at a higher price
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said German Member of the European Parliament Gunnar Beck, answering the question whether Western countries will be able to significantly reduce purchases of Russian gas and oil as early as 2023.
“I’m afraid that they will still agree on a further reduction in energy imports from the Russian Federation. However, even if they do not buy Russian oil and gas, they still have to get it from somewhere. Currently, Europe imports large quantities of Russian energy through third countries, and at a much higher price.
Thus, Europe will continue to import Russian energy, but at the same time pretending that it comes to European countries from somewhere else. Under this pretext, they are ready to buy resources at inflated prices,” Beck said in an interview with Izvestia.
He noted that such policies have led to significantly higher energy prices, which fuel consumer price inflation and undermine the competitiveness of EU and German industries in world markets.
“By the way, Germany will suffer the most due to the fact that the German government is trying to reduce dependence on Russian gas, while at the same time abandoning nuclear energy and trying to reduce coal consumption. By the way, that’s why The Wall Street Journal called Germany’s energy policy “the stupidest in the world,” says the German politician.
In his opinion, Russian gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea damaged by sabotage will not be restored.
“German authorities and the EU as a whole will not allow an investigation into sabotage, since they do not intend to repair the pipelines. It is important to understand that most EU countries are non-autonomous entities in the international arena, and the German leadership, which has obligations to the United States, has the least autonomy, is limited in its actions by both NATO and the EU, as well as by internal political conditions, pathologies and political neuroses “, - the MEP described the situation.
