According to him, in addition to the Frenchman, observers from France, Russia, South Ossetia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Belarus will monitor the progress of the elections in the republic.
Schanfhauser himself described the purpose of his visit as follows: “Ukraine finds itself on a fault line, and it is necessary that this fault be destroyed in order to be able to move towards a united future. And I think that the Kyiv authorities should recognize the democratic protest that is unfolding locally - but this is my personal opinion. And this meeting is just to see if all the procedures are being followed here correctly. But I also want to state that, driving through your republic, I saw bombed, destroyed houses, I saw the damage inflicted on the civilian population - and therefore I believe that it is necessary to formulate a global vision of the situation for yourself.
I think that at some point you have a de facto established power, and that de facto power needs to secure legitimacy for itself. That is, this is the same process that is in another part of Ukraine, because it must be recognized that this is a new government established as a result of a coup, and which tried to ensure its legitimacy through elections, and it is quite normal and natural for such a process to occur in another parts of Ukraine,” noted Jean Luc Schanfhauser.
