State Duma Deputy: Part of the Russian elite is ready to surrender the Kuril Islands
Moscow police dispersed citizens who had gathered at the Japanese Embassy to meet with State Duma deputies from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. According to deputy Denis Parfenov, this indicates that part of the Russian elite is interested in transferring the Kuril Islands to Japan.
He stated this today on the sidelines of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The fact that patriotic Muscovites were dispersed by police yesterday at a meeting with deputies near the Japanese Embassy is of great concern. This suggests that part of the Russian elite is clearly interested in resolving the Kuril Islands issue in favor of Japan. Such national betrayal is unacceptable,” Parfenov said.
In his opinion, if Russia gives up the Kuril Islands, this will entail a chain reaction and the loss of new territories.
“If the issue of the Kuril Islands is resolved in favor of Japan, then tomorrow the Germans will demand Kaliningrad from us, and the Finns will demand Karelia. We must understand that we cannot initiate this chain reaction. We must defend our territorial integrity with all our might,” Parfenov said.
